September 25, 2006

Reports:

President - Tony Harper:

  • Parking Resolution:
    • Discussion on Resolution. (Resolution attached to minutes in .pdf form.)
    • Resolution will be presented in General Business Meeting on Thursday
    • General Consensus: Awaiting vote on Thursday.
    • Lot Utilization study will be reccomended to increase amount of parking space.
  • Council Retreat:
    • Team building fun thing for Council members at some location.
      • Possible Lasertag.
      • Vogt Building possible, before going to Lasertag and Dinner.
      • Promote upper-lower classmen relations
  • All directors need to have regular committee meetings, and interact with them.
    • Reccomended: Agenda's for the meeting.
      • Allison handed out a sample meeting agenda, done in MS Word.
    • Directors should make all committee members feel involved, to invoke general SSSC Involvement.

Vice President - Allison Douglas:

  • E-Expo: March 3rd 2007
    • Schedule handed out
    • Various changes to High School schedule to allow more time to view exhibits and allow time to do other things.
    • Students will do at least three competitions. Competitions will be in a Group format.
    • Student-Faculty panel will occur during lunch. May also do a panel for non-student visitors.
    • Awards presentation will be directly after lunch.
    • Contact Allison with any ideas!
    • Task List will be ready approx. next Monday.
    • No headway on mailings, still awaiting list.
  • NAESC:
    • Email sent to all NAESC schools, but no registrations to date.
    • All council members expected to help!
    • Registration deadline expected to be October 13th, not set in stone yet.

Director of Administration - Bonnie Briggs (proxy):

Director of Corporate and Alumni Relations - Matt McConnell (proxy):

  • Absent - Excused - Report delivered by Tony Harper

  • Career Fair volunteers needed!
    • October 13th

    • If any Directors want to attend pre-fair lunch with the companies, contact DOCAR.
      • 11am at Alumni Club
  • Checking on NAESC Vans, awaiting confirmation.

Director of Finance - Joey Gordon:

  • Advance notice requested when needing supplies for events. At least a week in advance.

  • Council Office restocked today

  • Budget in good shape

  • Awaiting reimburstment for Society Picnic

  • T-Shirts & Hoodies:
    • Printing fees will be constant on all products

    • Ordering black and red hoodies, red shirts.
      • 50-75 Red Hoodies
      • 25 Black Hoodies
      • 50 Red T-Shirts
      • Order will hopefully go out Wednesday, should have them sometime next week for sale at Oct. Events.
    • Considering pre-orders to assist in amount to Order

    • Still looking into other SSSC Merchandise

Director of Public Relations - Brian Goessling:

  • Career Fair advertisement will be beginning ASAP.
  • Advisement: More postings in Ernst Hall.
  • Working with DOCAR to aquire a Career Fair banner.

Director of Student Activities - Matt Stivers:

  • Looking to draft Cheap Lunch rules.
    • DOF: Did fine on IEEE Cheap Lunch
    • Need more Pizza for future Cheap Lunch's.
    • May change ordering schedule, based on weather.

Director of Society Relations - Shannon George:

  • Society Cup starts Thursday at 6pm in Thinker Field.
    • DOPR needs information for Advertising.

    • Only ASME has responded thusfar.

    • Contact Shannon to sign up!

    • All events will be held in Thinker Field except Volleyball, which will be at one of the sand volleyball courts on campus.

    • DOSAC Committee will be officiating some of the events

    • Community Service project considerations:
      • Habitat for Humanity
      • Kersey library study room painting (General Interior, Cardinal Logo, and participating society logos)

Director of Student Affairs - Simone Caston:

  • Meet the Dean Forum next Tuesday
    • Ice, Tables, Etc... are set

    • Committee emails will be sent out soon

    • Volunteers appreciated.
      • Be at SSSC Office at 11:15am and Meet Simone.
  • Will be attending NAESC Conference with Tony in Boston

Speed News Editor - Shelly Willingham:

  • Copier is malfunctioning.
    • Speed news will be copied by Tony tommorow.

Freshman Council President - Alex Frommeyer:

  • Two Freshman Council meetings have taken place
    • Freshman Speed Feed newsletter will be posted in GES classes within the next week or so.
    • Current discussion is on whether to issue it seperately or in conjunction with Speed News.
    • Currently forming action plan to improve GES.

Faculty Advisor - Dr. Willing:

  • ABET Accreditation will be beginning soon! Should see activity starting tommorow.

Business

Announcements:

  • Do not email Simone if its important. Her cell # is in her box.

New Business:

  • Motion to approve a $800 allocation to ASME with expectation of reimburstment - Matt Stivers
    • Second: Simone Caston
      • Money will be reimburst by ASME National ASAP.
      • Assured repayment by ASME President.
      • DOF: $800 is doable.

  • Absent - Executive Board Meeting

  • We need a new Director's Meeting time.
    • Schedule passed around.
  • New "Desk Partner" released. Black with red lettering.

Vice President - Allison Douglas:

  • E-Expo:
    • We now have High School Mailings information.
    • Allison will be calling everyone who came last year, and contacting departments, to get the word out.

Director of Administration - Bonnie Briggs (proxy):

Director of Corporate and Alumni Relations - Matt McConnell (proxy):

  • Absent - Intramurals

  • We want to give out a few T-Shirts as prizes for submitting the Survey
    • DoF: It may be financially possible to give 50% off for two "winners"
  • Help is needed to setup and tear down Career Fair
    • Student Council will get a donation if four or more people show up!

Director of Finance - Joey Gordon:

  • Shirt & Hoodie orders should be in this week or next week.
    • Advertising requested for these shirts.
    • They will be sold during Fall Festival.

Director of Public Relations - Brian Goessling:

  • Currently advertising on the Career Fair.
    • Please email Brian for Advertising.

Director of Student Activities - Matt Stivers:

  • Begin planning on Fall Festival

Director of Society Relations - Shannon George:

  • Societys are being contacted, trying to keep activity up.

  • Society Cup:
    • We would like to do it ASAP, however Societies would prefer to do it in the Spring.
    • Society Cup will be moved to the spring.
    • DOSR Members will be attending society meetings and announcing the event.

Director of Student Affairs - Simone Caston:

  • Study Jams are being relatively unsuccessful
    • If noone shows up wednesday, they will be cancelled
  • NAESC Conference in Boston was a success.
    • Regional Conference is in four weeks.
    • UK has registered. South Florida & University of Florida may be attending, pending funds.
    • Contact Simone to join National Outreach, Communications, or Relations Committees.

Freshman Council President - Alex Frommeyer:

  • First Speed Feed newsletters went out today in GES classes.
    • Will be discussing the next issue, distribution, etc... this week
  • First even planning is starting this week

Speed News Editor - Shelly Willingham:

  • Speed News has changed to its new layout with new features!
  • Email Shelly with anything for Speed News

Ideas Committee Chair - DJ Tegtmeier:

  • First "Council Fun Event" will hopefully be taking place next month.

Faculty Advisor - Dr. Willing:

  • Meeting with President Ramsey this week.

  • Poverty and unemployment rates are high in the targetted region, and the goal of this program is to start affirmative action in the middle school level.

  • SWE Requires funding to attend the 2006 SWE National Conference in Kansas City, Missouri

  • Without SSSC Assistance, SWE may be hampered in its efforts in the following semesters.

President - Tony Harper:

  • Homecoming Dinner was last friday, good results from Speed Representatives.

  • Discussion: Moving Council Retreat to October 27th.
    • Consensus: Will not be moved.
  • Council Fun Event:
    • Bowling tommorow night at 8:00pm

Vice President - Allison Douglas:

  • NAESC:
    • NAESC Regional Conference is cancelled due to lack of participation.
  • E-Expo:
    • Mailings are ready to be processed, 11am-12:pm next week
    • Website is still being updated.

ACM President - Michael Hartman:

  • ACM keeps an uninteruptable power supply for the server that hosts the SSSC Website, and it is failing.
  • ACM is requesting $40 to purchase a new battery for it so that the webhost is infallable.

President - Tony Harper:

  • Discussion:
    • Kersey Renovation & possible SSSC Office Change.
    • Office Cleanliness Policy.
    • Office Organization Task Force over Christmas Break.

Vice President - Allison Douglas:

  • Allison needs mailing help for E-Expo!
  • EDAC and ESAC meetings November 17th.

President - Tony Harper:

  • E-Expo work is beginning full-time as of now. Allison is in charge of E-Expo as Vice President, and we need to get started!

  • Next Meeting:
    • Food? Marks, Qdoba, burgers, pizza?
    • Health Fee needs to be discussed before January.

Vice President - Allison Douglas:

  • Swear-Ins need to be done.

  • Co-Op Committee met and decided pre-requisites for Co-op Seminar.
    • GES 101 is a pre-req for the seminar, causing issues for students who did not complete the course.
  • E-Expo:
    • Schedule handed out and discussed
    • Director responsibilities handed out and discussed
    • Contact Allison if your going to have any problems or issues.

Director of Administration - Max Battcher:

  • Max is back from Redmond!
  • Travis-
  • Assassins Rule Discussion
  • All Directors need to start meeting with and working with their Committees.

Director of Corporate and Alumni Relations - Matt McConnell (proxy):

  • Kersey Library funding is beginning to flow in.
    • Naming rights will be $2 Million.
  • Corporate Expo will be from 2:00-5:00 during E-Expo. 2 more hours!
    • Each company will get three student invitations to an after-expo dinner.
    • Corporate letters will be going out Tommorrow.

Director of Public Relations - Brian Goessling:

  • Chalking for Forum and Freshman Fest delayed untill tommorrow.
    • Invite everyone to come!

Director of Student Affairs - Simone Caston:

  • Forum Tommorrow at 12:20pm in Ernst Auditorium.
    • Any volunteers are welcome!

  • Speed Feed delayed due to technical issues
  • Freshman Fest on Monday from 11:00am-2:00pm infront of J.B. Speed.
