SSSC Meeting Minutes Spring 2010
January 7, 2010
Meeting called to order in JS 100 at 12:20 PM.
Quorum was not met.
Freshman Council: Lauren Speaker
DOSAF: Shannon George
- Shannon has night class every night so she will not be able to do study jams. If you want them to continue someone will need to help out.
DOSAC: Ryan Frazier (Proxy: Kara Leeds)
DOSR: Race Nichols
DOPR: Belinda Casanova (Proxy: TBD)
DOF: Mike Schoen
- Still collecting the money from NAESC regionals.
- Hacker: Triangle still needs to be paid for the Fall Festival PA system.
DOCAR: Allie Bube (Proxy: TBD)
DOA: Jared Hatfield
- Lindsay Ferguson resigned as a 2nd year representative so there is now one spot open for 2nd year representative. If you are interested in the position or know someone that is interested they can be acclimated to the position by a fellow second year representative.
- I will be sending out emails to everyone who is currently listed as a Member at Large, if they do not respond expressing interest they will be removed from the roster by next Thursday.
- Over the break I scanned in 1178 pages of historical minutes from the years 1948 to 2004. Additionally, past programs from Engineers' Days and Engineering Exposition have been scanned dating back to the year 1975 which total 726 pages. This is a total of 1904 pages that have been digitized. All of these documents have been posted to the website. If you want to learn about the history of SSSC I recommend you glance over these documents.
- The library has historical records dating back to the 1930 that are related to SSSC and Engineers' Days. However, they charge $20 per scan to have digital copies made. There is the possibility that we could donate our current historical records, including digital copies, in order to obtain digital copies of our records that are contained within the archive. This would need to be talked about in new business.
- The physical plant stopped by the council office today and asked about the office move, they are currently getting our new room ready. The walls are done, but they still need to paint. However, there are still floor tiles missing that will need to be replaced before we move. It looks like we will be moving sometime soon as long as everything falls into place. As long as there are no technical problems, everyone will be able to keep their current door codes.
- We will be opening nominations for directors positions next week. If you are interested in a position talk to the current director. The plan is to leave nominations open for two weeks and have all of the elections conclude before E-Expo. The election process normally takes several weeks and we are required to have quorum and proxies are not allowed to vote.
- Nominations for the WS Speed award will be opened the first week of February and the selection will be finished before the final week of February.
Vice President: Alex Halbleib
- I'm ordering shirts this week, but I want to combine the normal shirt order with the polo shirt order, if possible. Be sure to register on the website if you need a polo shirt this year!

- Council Office Relocation – Tuesday
I met with Dean Starr yesterday morning and discussed an approximate time of our relocation and our “list of demands.” The following are the main points of the discussion.
- He cannot give us everything due how much everything will cost (for example a new refrigerator) but he said that he would be willing to work with us.
- Everything in the surplus storage is free! but only open on Wednesdays. Would anybody like to go look around for new stuff?
- We can ask physical plant to move stuff for a couple of bucks. (paid by Dean Starr)
- Cost of moving phone will be covered by Dean Starr
- New white boards will be given to us
- We may keep our door
- We may also paint our office
- Display cases/LCD screens/announcement board will be discussed in the future
- A permanent projector might be difficult to get, but a mobile projector may be used for the meeting room.
- Collapsible tables, couches, etc. may be found in the surplus area. If not then talk to Dean Starr to negotiate money for those items.
As for relocation, he the ETF (?) will be today or Friday. He has asked physical plant to move our council items on, as of right now, this up coming Tuesday so we need to properly package any loose leaf items into a box. I will be doing that all day tomorrow if I can locate some boxes.

- This past weekend I developed a game called Seeker that is very similar to Assassins. Right now a few people are already playing, and it is somewhat of a work in progress, but if you are interested you can join. The concept is that you are given a contract to find a specific person. You have 72 hours to complete your contract before it expires. Since the contracts are random it is possible for more than one person to have the same target. When someone completes a contract where you are the target you will be out of the game for 24 hours. The entire game can be played via text messages, so if you do have a text messaging plan sign up to use the game that way.

Seeker will not be issuing contracts until the Monday when we return from spring break. So far it has been a great success and if you have not joined in on the fun, I recommend you do so when we return from spring break.
We will need to start working on the Welcome Weekend video soon. The current idea that I had was a rube goldberg machine that spanned the length of the Speed School campus. We would film it going off in one uncut take. This would be a major effort and we would need to start working on this ASAP. This project would be much bigger than SSSC and we would need to get lots of help, but it would be a great promotion for Speed School.
After the transition to the new administration Steven will doing another sweep to make sure everyone is on a committee.
Achievements were awarded to those that helped out at E-Expo, attended the NAESC National conference, and even those who were pied as part of the freshman council Pi Day event.
