SSSC General Business Minutes Summer 2006
May 11, 2006
President - Tony Harper
- Dean Day has given the master plan with the options for the construction on Speed.
- All plans remove the council office with no plan to replace it.
- A letter will be drafted with our opinion on the subject.
- Discussion has been brought up on moving co-ops from the sophomore year to the junior year, try to get feedback on this.
- Committees will be meeting every other week, so be sure to check with your officers.
- Everyone is required to be on a committee.
Vice President - Allison Douglas
- ESAC meeting will be held June 2 at 1 p.m. and a member from every society will need to be present. Locatin to be determined.
- If someone is interested in running for VP next year, Allison will be willing to work with them on E-expo.
- NAESC conference planning meeting will be held in June at a time to be determined.
Director of Administration - Bonnie Briggs (proxy)
- Bonnie Briggs is the proxy for Max Batcher.
- Hopefully, Assassins will be up and running in June.
Director of Corporate and Alumni Relations - Adam Pfendt
- Will be emailing through the scocieties in the attempt to update the database for companies.
- Will be talking to Faye about SSSC's role in future Career Fairs.
Director of Finance - Joey Gordon
Director of Public Relations - Jeff Perkins
- Taken over the responsiblity of assigning door codes. If you've lost your code or need one report to Jeff.
- Has started a new project, a scrapbook of events.
Director of Society Relations - Selena DeRossett
Director of Student Activities - Dempsey Ballou (proxy)
- Volleyball sign-ups are on the council door.
- People are needed to help with the league.
- If you are interested or any more information is needed, please contact Dempsey.
Director of Student Affairs - Brian Goesseling (proxy)
- Planning on holding three forums this semester.
- The students' affairs committee needs members, so please join
- Main work being put into the handbook. If anyone can assist, please email either Brian or call Simone.

- Volunteers are needed for Career Fair. The dates and times are available in the council office or email Tony.
- There is an ESAC meeting scheduled for tomorrow at noon in the IE conference room.
- Elections for 2nd, 3rd, and PhD students will be held at the next meeting.
- Anyone interested in running or continuing in their positions as Representatives needs to email Bonnie. (babrig02@louisville.edu)
- A meeting has been set with Faye.
- Committee meeting on Monday at 3:45 in the council office.

May 25, 2006
- Speed School academic committees have open positions that need to be filled. Volunteers are needed.
- The handbooks have been turned in, but we are trying to work out the pricing since the print center is charging more for a smaller book.
- We are broke, so for those in the position to do so, do not spend any council money.
- Director's retreat will be held at Otter Creek, June 23-24. The directors have agreed to pay their own way in light of the financial difficulties council is going through right now.
- Tony will be meeting with Jack Roby who might be able to help council with funds management.
- Freshmen orientations are coming up! Thanks to those who have volunteered.
- The first ESAC meeting will be held Friday, June 9 (E-expo Student Advisory Committee).
- An email has been sent out to the societies, about the ESAC meeting. Hopefully some will be able to attend.
- The first NAESC meeting will be held Wednesday, June 7 at 7 pm in the council office.
- All first and second year students who are looking to continue being reps need to see Bonnie after meeting.
- Elections have been rescheduled to Friday, May 26 from 11 am to 1 pm.
- Talked with Faye about career fair and will be meeting with Debra Mayberry to discuss this further.
- It seems Speed is looking to have roundtables instead of Speed specific career fairs. Perhaps Council can help co-ordinate these.
- Still looking to fix the budget.
- Dr Willing sent out email putting together an activity for a Middle School event.
- People will need people to volunteer for this, and Tony will send out an email once all the facts are known.
- The final copy of the handbook has been sent to the Copy-it Center.
- The committee meeting is next Thursday at 5pm.
- Please remember to pay for the food you get in the council office.
June 1, 2006
- Volleyball has started, and there is a lot of participation.
- Kersey Library is shutting down this fall, with the exception of one class that will be held there.
- This will eliminate a sizable study area for the students.
- The main worry is that some of the books could be stolen, so maybe Council can discuss the idea of keeping some staff to watch the door.
- An email will be sent out to the student body about this; please email in all the feedback.
- Don’t forget the EDAC meeting held June 9 at 4:30 and the NAESC meeting held June 7 at 7 pm. Both meetings will be in the council office.
- All the society reps need to see Allison after the meeting.
- Bonnie needs the list of committee members. Please email them.
- If anyone has something they need advertised on the bulletin board, please email Jeff.

- Working orientation , thanks to those who have and are still volunteering.
- Dell will be called tomorrow for the black computer in the council office.

- There is a budget meeting tomorrow.
- Handbooks being handed out.

- Looking at forum for stress relief.
- Ideas committee meeting:
- Faculty/student sports (Dodge ball, Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, or Pool/ping-pong)
- Society cup (Bed race, 4 square, Quiz ball, Yo mama, Water balloon, Bed Race)
- Presentation by Josh White on ideas for more efficient speed school, parking lots and the railroad track.
June 15, 2006
- We are losing two of our directors this semester and will also need proxies for other positions.
- We ran out of the handbooks and have reordered more.
- We are restricted by our budget until July.
- EDAC meeting next week, location to be determined.
- Assassins started for next week.
- Got a hold of Debra Mayberry, and Adam shall be waiting on Faye to determine a meeting.
- Finance meeting this Friday in the council office.
- For the forum Brian will be contacting the counsel center to get a speaker.
- Josh met with parking director about adding some of the hashed parking spaces back and will be arranging a meeting to discuss fixing the potholes.

- Director’s retreat is scheduled for this weekend.
- The Alumni Reception went well and council got a lot of good ideas and feedback.
- We are still finalizing budget.
- A meeting has been set with Faye and Debra Mayberry in 2 weeks.
- The budget will need to be discussed.
- The counseling center still needs to be contacted for the upcoming forum.
- Josh is looking into getting a current full color overhead map. It should be around $25 to $30. Would like to see it laminated to be used with dry erase markers to help plan different activities.
- Josh and Tony will be contacting Larry Duffry to discuss a train tracks crossing over by the Graphics lot.
June 29, 2006
- Council will have incoming money soon.
- July 13 is Speed Olympics.
- SAB will probably be holding another picnic soon.
- Council will also be holding the forum soon.
- The NAESC Planning Committee will meet tonight at 7 pm in the council office.
- E-Expo Advisory Committee will meet July 14 at 4pm in the council office.
- Also working on getting an extra bike rack outside of Ernst Hall.
- The budget has been approved by the directors.
- Next meeting the budget will be brought to the meeting for council approval.
- Toner and chalk will be ordered for the council office next week.
- Still looking to get in touch with the Counseling Office for a forum date.
- Josh White is still looking for overhead map under $200.
July 6, 2006
- A meeting was held with Dean Wilhem.
- Money will be given for E-Expo.
- A Speed School Career Fair was also discussed.
- There is no real opposition to a Speed oriented career fair, but there isn’t much backing either.
- The Dean is worried about future officers In Council not doing a good job.
- It is no longer required for us to work with Faye but with Dean Day.
- Interviewed with the new career services officer.
- Leslie from New Mexico seems to be the top choice.
- The results should be announced within the next few weeks.
- Interviews are coming up soon for the VP of Student Affairs.
- ESAC meeting next Friday.
- Assassins starts tomorrow.
- Tony and Allison have met with Dean Wilhem.
- Adam will be meeting with Dean Day.
- Next week the budget will be voted on.
- The Monday before finals looks to be the date for the forum.
- The forum will be held at about 2:30 and will be on stress relief and time management.
- SWE Sleepover is tonight.
- The bio-engineering department has bought membership to an organization that gives them access to a large list of companies.
- Speed News is going out today and help is needed with folding it.
