• Orientation is upcoming.  Still need volunteers.  Email dosaf@speedcouncil.org to volunteer.
• Jared is putting together SSSC video for Orientation.  Email vp@speedcouncil.org for submission.
• GSP trip is upcoming.  More information is pending.
  

• Forms for summer sports leagues in the office atop microwave.  Due end of Month.
• Sports start June first after Holiday weekend.
• German students visiting.  Downs after Dark trip?  Lookout for more information.

• 1st Society rep meeting last night went well.  
• Freshman game nights start on the 15th of June.  Jeopardy, Xbox, board games.

• T-shirt design, Louisville Engineering, Black on White won.  Hopefully in stock by orientation.
• Biggest Loser challenge starts monday with interest meeting.  Actual challenge starts following Monday.
• Weekly email ready to go, 1st one should go out later today.  Check out the blog to keep tabs on council events.

• Getting ideas to spend the surplus. We currently have some ideas including: fridge, microwave, PA system, promotional items. If you have only other ideas, email them to me dof@speedcouncil.org.

DOCAR: Allie Bube

• Next tuesday is first alumni council meeting of the semester.  Will report on that next meeting.
• Allies Naesc committee should meet after that meeting.

• Setting up email list serve for weekly email.  Hopefully that will be online soon.

• Working on a short slide show video that will be shown at orientation sessions to help students get an idea about what SSSC does.
• The tentative theme for E-Expo 2011 is "On the Shoulders of Giants"  This will need to be voted on and approved by council.
• The initial task list for E-Expo 2011 has been created and I will be meeting with directors starting next week to revise and extend the task list.

• IBA meeting tommorrow.
• Dean Day wants feelings about e-books.

• Motion to approve "On the Shoulders of Giants" as theme for E-expo 2011 by Jared.
  
• Motion passed.
• Martin Dombi motioned to open floor for discussion of co-operation with Triangle for Speed Olympics.  Motion passed.
• Triangle rep discussed ideas for co-operative effort for speed Olympics, cheap lunch over the summer.
• Vegetarian options should be included.
  
• Obstacle course, other carnival type attractions for the event.
• Joint committee of SSSC and Triangle would be formed to plan event.
• Vote for formation of joint committee.  Vote passed.  Committee will be formed.
• Motion to discuss e-book option for course text books.  Motion carries.
• e-books would replace printed text.  Projected cost $25.  Physical copy still available for purchase.
• Students would be required to purchase the ebook.  School must guarantee volume.
• E-books would be DRM'd to lock onto only one computer.  The book would likely expire after semester ended.
• What is the time-frame?
• Have they considered open book tests/computers open for tests?
• What happens when tablet is out for maintenance.  You are without your textbook.

• Biggest Loser interest meeting went well.  1st Weigh in will be Monday.

• I will be putting up new snack prices. Everything is going to be $.50 or $1.00. Also please do NOT pay in advance. It can become too hard to keep track of how much money you have spent and are more likely to over spend.
• During this past directors meeting, we decided what to spend out surplus money on. We will be purchasing the following: 
  
  Fridge, PA System, Promotional Items - Pens, Foam Blocks, Table Runners,  and Candy, Folding Tables, and Microwave

• I will be reporting info from the Alumni Council Meeting during the official general body meeting next week. Currently working on getting a Keynote for E-Expo 2011 NAESC Corporate Sponsorship-We will be using the time allotted for the DOCAR committee meetings every other Thursday to work on things.More members are always welcome to join the committee!

• Seeker has been turned back on, if you have already registered you can switch your account to active.  If you have not registered you can sign up now to join in on the fun.
• I have already had E-Expo meeting with Allie and Lauren.  I will be meeting with all of the other directors in the coming weeks to get the task list for E-Expo finalized.
• A version of the slide show that will be shown at orientation sessions has been finished.  It will be posted on Council's home page if you are interested in looking at it.

• Presented students opinions on E-Books to Dean and department chairs.  They agreed that the technology/availability was not up to our needs yet so will not make any commitments now, but will keep looking for options in the future.
• Working to get the end of fiscal year budget surplus allocated with Cristina Heisler
• In the near future, we will be creating a committee for partnering with Triangle on the Speed Olympics.  Be on the lookout for more information on this.

• Dr. Zurada has an opening for a paid research position.  Preffered applicants will have background in Java or another programming language.

• Dr. Willing was injured in an accident last week.  He has been released from the hospital.
• Won't be back at school for a while.  We are discussing a group visit at his home.
• Discussion on collecting money to send a get well card for Dr. Willing.  Donations to Lauren Speaker.
• We will discuss society standing during New Business.  Possibly clean slate for many societies.
• Council has reps on many Speed School committees.  Some of these positions are available, an email about openings and descriptions will be out soon.

• Karl Fleischmen nominated Jessica Irwin as first year rep.  Sagan Jiva seconds; No objections.  Passes.
  
• Discussion of change to society standing.  We are considering opening up good standing to all committees who make an effort to show up during trial period. 
  
• Some societies have complained that it is too difficult to regain good standing.
• This can strongly affect quorum in the fall.  Therefore we will only open it up to societies who show good faith.
• Societies will be required to attend the remaining General Business Meetings this semester.
• Also, societies will be required to attend 5 of 10 Freshman game nights during orientation.

• We had a very successful cookout on Tuesday. Thanks to everyone who helped out or attended!
• Freshman council has now officially disbanded. I'd like to thank everyone for a great year and I look forward to working with the new freshmen in the fall :)

• I am going today to get a new fridge, new microwave, a chest deep freezer, and 8' tables.

• I have been trained on Pro-Card so from now on I will be doing all purchases, unless for some reason I am not available. 
• I am going on a Sam's run as soon as we get the new fridge and freezer set up and they are cool.

• Allie is currently putting together a list of potential keynote speakers for E-Expo.  If you have any ideas you can pass them along to Allie.
• We are still working on the logo, if anyone has any ideas for "On the Shoulders of Giants" they can give them to Lauren.

• The new shirts are in so we will be holding a modeling session.  If you want to pose for the camera we will be looking for a date in the coming week.
• The initial design for the logo is a giant with the "Speed School building" on the sholder.  It is still in the early stages, but it seems to be a good idea.

• There is a NAESC Website Committee tonight at 5:30 in the conference room.  We have a Google Apps account set up for the website and will be designing the registration system.
